Abstract : Café Goodluck, one of Pune’s oldest Irani cafés, has built a strong legacy since 1935 through affordability, iconic menu offerings, and cultural relevance. However, rising competition from modern cafés, changing consumer expectations, and operational challenges have created a strategic dilemma: Should the café preserve its heritage identity, modernize, or scale aggressively? This case examines the complexities of balancing tradition with innovation in a highly competitive food and beverage industry. It explores how heritage brands can remain relevant by embracing selective modernization while safeguarding their authentic identity and customer loyalty. The study also highlights the importance of strategic decision-making in ensuring long-term sustainability, profitability, and preservation of cultural heritage. Furthermore, it evaluates the role of branding, customer experience, digital engagement, and product innovation in strengthening the café’s competitive position. The case provides valuable insights for entrepreneurs, family-owned businesses, and heritage enterprises seeking to achieve sustainable growth without compromising their historical legacy and cultural significance.
